The History... of Lawrence Memorial Hospital
In the mid-1950s, a sentiment developed in Lawrence County that a hospital should be constructed
in order to better serve the healthcare needs of the immediate area. A proposal was passed with the
help of physicians and county leaders, and in 1960 Lawrence Memorial Hospital opened its doors.
Since then, services have expanded to keep up with the growing healthcare needs of Lawrence
County and its surrounding areas.

Throughout the years funds have been made available for much-needed equipment, but little for
capital improvement. In celebration of Lawrence Memorial Hospital's 50 years of service, Lawrence
Memorial Health Foundation is launching the Golden Jubilee Capital Campaign. Funds from the
campaign will fulfill the vision of committing our resources to meet the needs and expectations of
our patients, our staff and the communities we serve.
Lawrence Memorial Health Foundation will lead this campaign and believes when completed,
patient-care expectations will be exceeded as our staff carries out their duties in this new clinical
environment.
The Need... keeping the dream alive
It is the desire of Lawrence Memorial Health Foundation to carry on the dream of previous

started 50 years ago will continue into the future.
The Solution... request for community support
To the patrons of Lawrence Memorial Hospital-
We can only imagine the anxiety associated with traveling to places like Jonesboro, Memphis or
Little Rock with a seriously ill or severely injured loved one. Prior to 1960, that was the only option for
residents of Lawrence County. It was for that reason our people rose above adversity gave of their
means and came together to create Lawrence Memorial Hospital. Over the last fifty years Lawrence
Memorial has provided much-needed emergency and primary care to many people while Lawrence
Hall Nursing Center has provided care for the elderly in a loving and safe environment These two
institutions have grown into what is now Lawrence Health Services, which encompasses so much
more. During all this growth and change, care has been performed at a level that has earned local
regional and national recognition and awards.
"Father Time" has continued to move forward, and we are again at a crossroads in providing
healthcare for our community. Just as in the 1950s, we are attempting to bring our community
together by leading a tremendous and exciting project called the Golden Jubilee Capital Campaiqn
As you will discover by reading this folder, you can take part in reaching this ambitious goal by qivinq
in one or more ways. The history is described and the mission is before us.. .now it is up to us to make
it happen.
As Co-Chairs, we are honored to lead this important campaign and realize it will take the efforts of
many to accomplish our goal; however, we believe the same spirit of giving that was alive in our
people some fifty years ago is still alive today. We are excited to tell our story to the wonderful people
of Lawrence County and its surrounding area, and by doing so, will hopefully carry on the mission of
Lawrence Memorial!-"People you know caring for people you love."
